Processes in most HR departments are still in the equivalent of the
punched-card era. Some places have applications which scan resumes
for keywords, such as Word 6 or Framemaker; other places have people
who do basically the same type of work. HR people, particularly when
try to fill a contract position, collect a set of keywords because
that's the only method they have of locating skills in a resume. It's
a brute force method of filtering.
So, the hiring manager may know that you can moved from Robohelp to
DocToHelp in a week. The system employed in the overworked HR department
doesn't understand those finer points. With the number of applicants for
most positions, they don't have to. The key to career success has been,
and continues to be, getting past the gatekeepers.
