To all who responded to my query,
Thanks to all who took the time and effort to share their
opinions with me regarding the tech writing field. All of the comments
were helpful. I'm not disillusioned by competition in the field, but I
don't want to spend time and effort heading down a dead end street.
Also, I don't expect to get rich at anything if I earn a PhD. I do,
however, want to enter a profession where I can earn a living wage and
derive
enjoyment from my work. You've all been very helpful and I look forward
to participating on the listserv.

p.s. I enjoy reading my own writing. Is that a strange form of
narcissism or a common practice among writers?
