Sorry folks, but the "Blue Star Tattoo" story is a complete hoax. I
first ran across it at the news desk at CHTK Radio in Prince Rupert, BC,
Canada, but it was showing its age even then. It has no basis in fact,
and qualifies as a genuine urban legend.

The story shows up in church bulletins, PTA newsletters, and even press
releases, and seems to be able to make its way around the country in
hard copy form almost as fast as it now will be doing on the internet,
thanks to our friend who took the time to type it up and post it here.

If you're interested in the history and background of the Blue Star
Tattoo hoax, please read Jan Brunvand's excellent series of books on
urban legends, or, for net.citizens, alt.folklore.urban, where I think
it even makes an appearance in the Urban Legends FAQ.

Cheers, @DISCLAIMER@
