I sent the following post last Friday just as our system went down for
the 4-day holiday < grin >. It was bounced back to me so I'm
resending it...


Thanks to everyone on the list who responded to me on and off list
regarding my question of when to use "if" and when to use "when" when
writing conditional clauses.

The gist of most responses was that "if" implies uncertainty;
"when" implies certainty and time.

In my example, "when the truck..." proved to be more appropriate than
"if the truck..."
