But Pat,

First Nation doesn't mean a thing south of the Canadian border. It is
another example of how we *can't* keep up with PC terms because we don't
know how long our writing will be out there, or where. It's also an example
of why we owe it to ourselves to find the most accurately descriptive and
neutral possible terms; e.g., aboriginal American, and stick to them. If you
had read my earlier post, you would know that many aboriginal Americans
*prefer* the term Indian: would you dictate to them when their gorge should
rise?

Would I work for Time-Life? You bet. How else can I get my work in front of
so many people so easily? Admittedly, the T-L series are generally pretty
foul, but even faulty explication beats ignorance.

Writing is not inherently difficult or unpleasant; it's all the agonizing
around the activity that causes the problems. The worst writing job is a
hell of a lot better and pays much more than other jobs I've had; e.g.,
pearl diver in a smorgy, infantryman, and inside salesman.
