Clarification-Re:Who's the author?

  It has come to my attention that maybe a little clarification
is necessary regarding my question about changing or removing an
author's name on a document.

  I knew as soon as I sent that question that I should have used
a different example. I overlook sometimes, okay frequently, that
the majority of folks on the List are in the commercial world
and I am in the government bureaucracy. In the government
(specifically, the Army), when we develop a product in-house, we
don't have the hassle (or benefit) of copyright protection. For
example, several years ago my development team received a
product (source code and documentation) from the Air Force, for
us to modify for our own needs. We modified their code and
documentation, gave the result a new name, and fielded the
product. There were no legal hurdles to contend with.

  That's why, at the bottom of my original post, I added the
parenthetical about internal reports or plans possibly providing
a better example.

  Bottom line: With the type of documents I'm talking about,
copyright is not an issue! Think *in-house* only.
