I've been reading the hyphen thread and thought a little hyphen history might
be interesting. It was originally called the bar-sinister and copyiest
calligraphic monks were not allowed to use it upon fear of excommunication
(it was sinful to hyphenate holy words, especially Je-sus--oops guess that's
