Position Announcement: Information Specialist
The Office of Research Administration (ORA)
University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Description: The Information Specialist will work in the Research Advancement
Group within ORA. Applicants should be capable of interacting with faculty,
writing and generating printed and electronic publications, developing and
maintaining networked information servers (e.g., WorldWide Web and Gopher
systems), and programming in the UNIX and "C" languages. The successful
applicant must be confortable with UNIX, Macintosh, PC DOS, and Microsoft
Windows environments. Among the software packages to be used are Microsoft
Word, WordPerfect, PageMaker, Gopher, Mosaic, UNIX programming, C programming
language, SGML/HTML mark-up languages, PopMail, Persuasion, Illustrator,
FoxPro, and Novell Netware.

Qualifications: A strong background in technical writing -- with demonstrated
aptitude in computer programming and information systems development -- is a
must. Applicants should have a degree in an information-based discipline
(English, communications, information science, or computer science), with at
least two years of professional experience that includes technical writing in a
networked computing environment. Knowledge of desktop publishing and page
design is also desired. Strongly required is familiarity with computer
networking such as the Internet and Local-Area Networks.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
