We've produced manuals in both 3-ring and spiral bound form. The spiral
bound may be less expensive to produce--and pages can be added (although
this can be a major pain to accomplish). The choice for us depends on the
size of the document and the nature of the client. Some of our customers
prefer the 3-ring--so of course, we try to accomodate them.
