Thanks to everyone to responded to my quandry of how to tell users to use
a particular SQL statement when there was a potential problem of
performance degradation.

The 'winner' -- ta da -- (thanks, Jan Bates): 'Use the PREPARE statement
for SQL statements than an application uses often enough to cause
performance degradation' followed by some examples of degradation
scenarios. This alerts readers that should testing reveal performance
problems there is a possible solution without rewriting the query.
