Among other uses, internet supports e-mail contact between
editors and authors on the one hand and editors and
referees on the other--allowing for a degree (kind?) of
interaction hardly possible with snail mail. This is
extremely useful for putting together refereed journal
articles.
My journal also uses e-mail for distribution of an ascii
version, ftp and listserv for archival, and will soon
support www for the same purposes. We may in the future
use MUD/MOO for editorial/organizational meetings, since
our editorial board is internationally distributed.
These are not your standard tech writing uses, but you
may find them amusing to relate....
