Schools are actually a good point: it may be a lot easier for
a school district to afford, say, six workstations with Quark
for their class, and enough manuals for everyone to take one
home, than to buy as many computers and licenses as they have
students. Anyone who has ever dealt with such wonders as two-hour
reserve (because the library only had three copies of the book
needed for a lecture course with 100 students) will appreciate
the difficulty here: is the professor going to accept the
explanation "I didn't do the reading because Joe wouldn't give
me a turn at the computer"? People who are using the program
full-time may get their own machines, but that doesn't mean
everyone will.
