organization's publications department. The Technical Publications
Department and the Library have been merged to
build on the strengths of each group. The Publications Department
has traditionally excelled at designing, editing and distributing
scholars' products and the Library at organizing and providing
access to those products. The two groups are collaborating with
high energy physicists to provide innovative electronic document
production, organization and delivery. This management position
offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of development
in this profession--and to have a lot of fun!

The Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), a
high-energy research facility located at Stanford
University, is seeking an experienced and innovative
professional for the position of:

Technical Publications
Manager

Reporting to the Head of Library & Information
Services, the individual chosen will manage the
Technical Publications Department which provides
editorial, graphic design, documentation, printing,
distribution, and photographic services and is staffed
by approximately ten full-time employees. Manager
will provide technical and design leadership, ensure
quality service, and develop and implement electronic
publishing and dissemination systems.

Qualifications: Requires an MA or MS in technical
communications, English, technical editing, or a
scientific discipline. An equivalent amount of
training and experience may be substituted. Requires
7-10 years' increasingly responsible experience in
technical publications operations and a strong,
hands-on knowledge of desktop publishing techniques.
Portfolio of past projects must be submitted with
resume. Preference will be given to candidates with
experience in Tex, Macintosh computing environments,
Adobe Illustrator, FrameMaker and Internet access to
document archives. Requires successful experience in
managing people and resources and in leading groups
effectively.
