Artistic enhancement, simulation, or fraud? Recent advances in photojournalism
have highlighted long-standing ethical issues in communicating technical
information. Today, technical communicators face new ethical challenges:
o Ownership of electronic information
o Accuracy of video simulation, animation, and digitized graphics
o Responsibility for describing newly discovered technical hazards
While technology does not create ethical issues, it exposes more people to
them. Increased access to advanced technology means more people can quickly
and easily create and publish unethical communications. At the July 28 meeting
of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication
Communication, Annette Reilly will explore some of the ethical quandaries that
technology brings. Dr. Reilly is immediate past president of the Society for
Technical Communication and has 19 years of experience as a technical
communicator.
Join us at the meeting, or come early and join us at 5:30 at the Good Earth
Restaurant (5955 Calle Real, Goleta) for an informal dinner.
