TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm sorry this posting doesn't contribute specifically to how "SQL" is used in
sentence or offer salary information for tech-writing jobs here in the Silicon
Valley or suggest how to document quitting Windows. But I need some information
and it is related -- however tangentially -- to our profession.
Any former humanities majors who are now technical writers -- if there are any
such out there -- might appreciate my question. I just finished a bio of Walker
Percy written by Jay Tolson at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for
Scholarship in D.C. and I had a question I wanted to ask him.
How in the world would I find out if the aforementioned Jay Tolson has an
Internet address, presumably @ the WWICfS?
There's been a lot of discussion recently re: books on the Internet. What I
want is something like an Internet White Pages, but not the Internet Yellow
Pages I've glanced at over at Barnes & Noble.
Any ideas, suggestions, tips?
It occurs to me that my request might be answered 2 different ways:
1) Someone out there in TechwhirLand might actually know Jay Tolson, but then,
like the old proverb, you gave me a fish so I could eat for today, which
wouldn't be bad, but I am concerned about the long term.
2) But teach me to fish, etc., etc.
Thanks.
