Personally, I like to see running titles at the top rather than the
bottom of the page, but who am I to say, I still like to see two
spaces at the end of a sentence!

However, I do have a good reason to keep the running titles at the
top in the stuff that I do... I do documentation for an academic
Computer Center. While our documentation can be and is sometimes
printed, for the most part it is read online (in Gopher and local
gopher-like applications). In this case, the running titles should
be at the top of the page to cut down on unnecessary blank lines
between the last line of text on the page and the footer. (Our
viewing software tries to remove multiple consecutive blank lines,
but it doesn't handle 20 or 30 blank lines in a row very well.) I
also use "page n" rather than just have the page number; this makes
online searching easier. (A global search for "page 13" is much
more likely to succeed than one for just "13".)

Because we're limited to about 70 characters in the online version,
we have to leave the date out of our headers. (Sometimes just the
title and date don't even fit.) While I'd like to include the
date, it would force a second header line, and I don't want that at
all.

My 2 cents, from a slightly different viewpoint.

Judy
