But one of the beauties of the list is that everyone has the opportunity to
join -- or not join -- a group discussing a topic. As someone else
mentioned, my mailbox is now a mess; I can't look for personal messages,
because I can't easily tell them from the TECHWR-L messages.

A more effective solution might be periodic wet-noodle lashings for those (I
sometimes include myself in this) who don't change the subject line to
accurately reflect the subject.

So what are we supposed to do? Let's say 8 people start a side conversation.
Are we supposed to put 8 addresses in the "To" field? No. I don't have
time for this. It will add *hours* to the time it takes to participate in
the list. The longer I deal with it, and the more "ripples" I realize it
causes, the stronger I feel about it.
