I like the changes.

I like the fact that people now must make a deliberate effort to send out
e-mail to over 700 people.

I look forward to the prospect of less mail -- not that there will be less
discussion, just that some topics that belong offline will finally get there.

Face it, if you're at a conference of 700 people, there are times for large
group discussions. There are also cocktail parties, where people talk in small
groups of between two and (usually no more than) 7 people.

Having everyone respond to everything publically is like telling everyone at
the cocktail party to speak loud enough so all can hear...even if some of them
are having a private discussion. The one difference, I suppose, is that most
people have to make an effort to speak loud enough for 700 people to hear them
-- whereas we're providing a megaphone for the most hushed and private
conversations when a reply is automatically distributed to all.
