Kim,
Fred's advice in another post to call Information
Mapping, Inc. at 617/890-7003 is the best advice for
finding out more about the Information Mapping method.
The mapping method was developed by R. E. Horn from his
own research and the research of others. It is the
property of Information Mapping, Inc., and they only
provides information on how to use it through their two
to four day seminars. The book Fred mentioned is the
only one I know of that discusses what mapping is (but
I have not read it).
People can, as my company did, have teachers certified
to teach the method in their company (but not for the
public). Once certified, the company must use a set
method for teaching mapping and use the seminar
textbooks from Information Mapping, Inc. I don't know
if anyone is certified to teach the method in semester
college classes. That sort of thing would cut into
their seminar profits over time.
I had asked to have my name removed from the
Information Mapping, Inc. mailing list a couple of
years ago. I was tired of getting announcements for
every seminar they offered. After all the posts here, I
decided to have my name put back on the list. They have
changed their mailings to sending a catalog of what
they offer twice a year and quarterly catalog updates.
