For what it's worth, my department's guidelines (which are based
on the SPE Publications Style Guide) are to use ft/min with no
periods; however, instead of using a hyphen in 50-51 ft/min, we
are told to use "to" because it is more clear. (A hyphen could
be confused with a minus sign.)
The result is 50 to 51 ft/min
