Now seems to be as good a time as any to start this debate: what
exactly is a "real" technical writer. What, at a minimum, are the
necessary descriptors for fitting into that category? What are the
exclusionary descriptors.
This is a serious question, not just an attempt to start an argument or
pick on any particular comment. I think it would be useful to all
technical communicators to be able to define the role of "technical
writer" in at least some very general sense. Some factors to consider:
