Hi,
Last time I heard, FrameMaker had an excellent module designed to setup math
equations of all types, and if memory serves me, they had quite a nice
selection of editing tools as well. I think they even had some way of
evaluating expressions, as well, sort spell-checking your equations. (But
don't hold me to it.)
I would heartily recommend FrameMaker for a project the size you're doing.
I used to code for printers, too, and when my company made the transition
to Frame it was like reaching the oasis after a really long hike in the desert.
