ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The Practical Conference on Communication (PCOC, pronounced
"peacock") is sponsored by the the Society for Technical Communication/
East Tennessee Chapter (STC/ETC) and features professionals from
throughout the United States who share their communication experience,
insights, methods, and research.
CALL FOR PAPERS
You are invited to share your expertise at the 17th Annual PCOC,
to be held in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, November 3-5, 1993. STC/ETC is
accepting proposals for 20-minute presentations or 1-hour workshops
on such subjects as scientific, business, medical, and technical
communications, including
* writing, editing, and business communications
* career opportunities, education, training, and management practices
* design, layout, and visual arts
* desktop publishing and information processing and exchange
standards
* indexing, abstracting, text management, translations, and
hypermedia
* public relations and marketing
SPECIAL BENEFITS FOR PRESENTERS
Presenters will receive a 10% discount on registration and will
be invited to attend a speaker's breakfast sponsored by STC/ETC. Also,
their papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
SUBMISSIONS
Please submit a 100-word abstract of your proposed presentation or
a 1-page description of your proposed workshop (including plans for
group activities), brief autobiographical information, and the
submission form below. Entries may be submitted by mail to

The deadline for receiving entries is July 17, 1993. Presenters
will be notified of acceptance by August 16 and must register for the
conference by October 11. A camera-ready copy and an electronic version
of each paper must be submitted by September 27.
