Two other questions I might ask:



1) Is it that much more effort to set up a left/right page template? In FrameMaker, the extra effort is minimal and once it is set up you don't have to worry about it.



2) Does a left/right layout detract from the usability of your PDF? Probably not.



Make that three questions:



3) If you want to avoid "bookthink", why are you using PDF as an output format? Because of its page presentation, PDFs are notoriously bad on tablets and phones.
