I searched my hard drives for old documents and I found old resumes from 1996. They opened just fine and I read them, now I'm terrified. The old things kinda scare me. There's an objective statement and the classic, "References and detailed resume available upon request." Wow. If anything in an old Word document should trigger a safety restriction, it should be that references comment.

If the format of the document is unreadable, then perhaps the document is being opened as something it is not, like an extension being changed.
