In yours, he left out the value of the multiplier for the operation to
be performed 20 times. If his writing is that sloppy, it needs more
than style cleanup.

Original phrase again, "multiply the absorbance of the dilution times 20."

I read it two ways according to how the writer presented the problem as multiply either "20 times" or "by 20," since "multiply times 20" as presented in the original question makes no sense. But there was not enough context to make any sort of accurate reading.

There is a serious problem in the original phrase because it leaves out necessary information. If my research is correct, it is not "dilution," it is "dilution factor" that is represented as a number. Absorbance is also a number. What, please tell me, it being multiplied 20 times? The absorbance or the dilution factor? If absorbance (A) is 2 and dilution factor (DF) is 3, does "times 20" mean 40 or 60?

Does the phrase mean A x 20 or A(DF x 20) or something else?

Here is a question on how to use the formula. https://www.researchgate.net/post/Which_of_these_three_methods_for_calculating_the_concentration_of_a_metal_sample_is_true
