I used PNGs. InDesign only outputs to epub, then you can use Amazon's tools to convert to mobi for Kindle. My client wanted to use their own CSS so I had to edit the resulting epub files to accommodate this.

There is an excellent video series on Lynda.com for creating ebooks from InDesign by Anne Marie Concepcion. It is 4 hours and 20 minutes and has a lot of background information regarding ebooks in general. You could subscribe for a month to watch the course and it would be money well spent.

Subject: Ebooks

Starting with using InDesign (the requisite), do any of you have experience creating ebooks from your INDD file?

Did you use JPGs or PNGs?

Did you output to .epub, and then perhaps use a .mobi conversion tool?
Which one?

What problems did you encounter and were subsequently able to solve?

Was there an issue formatting for different reading devices (e.g., Kindle versus Nook versus iGizmo/Android thingie)?

Are there good online resources to have a look at?

Many thanks,

Chris Morton
