The odd jobs that float in through the transom generally want to pay me
$36 per hour, regardless of location of job or person, without any
consideration of the massive expense of relocation. I have turned down (or
more often simply ignored) $36 jobs on both coasts and in Flyoveria. These
are apparently the same jobs that were $17 per hour 20 years ago. They
sometimes have excruciatingly detailed lists of "required" "skills". I do
not believe the jobs actually exist.
To figure out how to manage pay rates you can probably do well by checking
out Nick Corcodilos. He's the "don't tell them your pay rate" guy.
