At 63 I still get contacted a lot for contract gigs at decent rates, but not the kind I really want (short-term or part-time work that leaves me enough free time to watch our fruits, veggies and flowers grow). I was actually getting more of those before the economy started to pick up again.

And I don't think the local market here in Portland can support a high enough rate to persuade me to go full time again; that would require something that also pushes my "this looks like it would be a lot of fun" button.

So my question to those on this list who are around my age, what success have you had in getting contract tech writing assignments, respectable pay rates, etc., at your elevated age? Details please, and off-list comments are fine.
