Itâs a step in the right direction, but the legislation doesn't seem to compel employers to provide the salary range up front.

So even if deciding what to offer a new hire will be based on a pre-defined salary range, given that there's an ingrained tendency to pay men more, it still doesn't prevent employers from offering a female candidate a figure from the lower end of the scale.

And if a female candidate has been underpaid in her previous job, she is not likely to challenge the offer, because she'll have no way of knowing that its low/how much latitude there is to ask for more.

This list has certainly discussed the dilemmas we face when recruiters demand our salary history but wonât tell us ahead of time what their salary range is budgeted for.
