Yup. In addition to needing creative thinking to figure out the best and most efficient way to write/present information as text or illustrations, in order to be a well-rounded tech communicator, you should be able to design document and help templates, and sometimes even powerpoint slides and videos.

Writers who are painfully pedantic and wedded to doing the same old, same old aren't useful for much more than writing simple procedures, and don't take well to learning new methodologies and tools.

In our profession, things are always evolving. Adaptability requires creativity.

My experience is that a good technical writer must be creative in order to solve many problems. Further, I've been engaged in the creation of a lot of technically-oriented marketing collateralâincluding design/layout.
