Re: including "and so on" in a "such as" list ...

So lots of replies confirming that including âand so onâ in a "such as" list 
is wrong.

But only one reply (saying it's not so bad because it does clarify things 
for people who don't realize that the "such as" lead-in implies that there 
are likely more item than are listed) to the real question: how awful is it 
to write a redundant, "incorrect" sentence?

I don't believe that such people are limited to ESL readers. But even if 
they were (only ESL readers), they're the majority of the docs' audience.

**** So I'd like opinions as to whether it's better to stay "pure" with the 
writing or to be incorrect but sure that nobody will misunderstand.

(In the particular case Iâm concerned with, I'm going to go with the correct 
choice. It's in text where it wonât really matter if people don't realize 
that there are more items than are given in the "such as" list.)
