Erika asks...
...an application activated remotely from outside a network (using a special password), that accesses data behind the firewall? Right now we call them secure applications, but there must be a more exact term.========

This is a good question. We're entering into a brave new world with microservices, cloud connections, containers, software defined networks/storage/datacenters, etc. I suspect we need to come up with plenty of new terms.Â

I'm thinking you should throw in the word "remote", or maybe "cloud". The point is not just that the app is secure, but that it's external AND secure (one hopes). So your term should probably capture that.Â

A side question, Erika... How do you document these external apps? What I mean is, do these apps integrate with a process on your network? Do you need to present the conjunction as a single user experience? If so, how do you manage the documentation so that it's all a seamless whole?
