I think the means used to warehouse the information is irrelevant. The main
concerns are to make sure the glossary is complete and that anyone who
needs access has it.

Where you need to worry about differences in meanings is where there may be
legal ramifications. If there are times when a specific meaning must be
applied because there are legal or financial consequences to using the
wrong term, your documents must use only the right term. You need to set up
your document production process to take this into account. I hate to get
the legal department involved in anything concerning documentation, but
this is one time when their involvement is necessary.
