TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm amused that the poll questions range from "private offices" to "open cubes with acoustical masking" when the current trend for offices seems to either involve collections of half-height cubicles organized in 5-10 unit pods, or even completely cube-less open offices where your workspace is one 6-foot desk in a 300 foot long row.
I have an actual cube in a row of open cubes right now, but oh it can be so much worse.

Three or four people sat at each table with no separation between them. Seeing the too-open layout gave me mild panic attacks. I like to work with others, but I also like to sit in my cube quietly. Alone.

I think the biggest complaint they have is that they don't have their own space (meaning a 3.5 wall cube). We are going to the c-shaped cubes as well. There are a few of the older fellows in my office that tend to have a few siestas during the day that are pretty unhappy.
