I've tried that trick (removing dates) on a traditional resume, but a
couple of places demanded that I send them a version with the dates put
back in. I reluctantly capitulated.
But like the OP (and many others who'll read this post), I have related
experience dating back to the late '70s when I held copywriting and
production positions in traditional media before becoming an early adopter
of electronic publishing in '86.
Having this depth of experience has really helped over the years, including
on a recent design-house-created ebook that my client thought was ready to
release. It not only had typographical errors, but no one had thought to
fine-tune the tracking in their justified
text copy blocks.
As I learned years ago as a line cook at prestigious destination
restaurant, "If it doesn't look appetizing, don't serve it!"
