TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I have been tasked with developing a document version scheme.
The version formatting standard will have to take into account features
such as:
- Minor and major revisions (and rules)
- Branching (i.e. slight deviation such as older product with continued
document updates)
- Localization (i.e. same document in different language)
- Document families (i.e. User guides, Quick Starts, Upgrade guides, etc.)
- GA, beta, internal and/or external facing documentation
I am seeking any advice.
After building this standards document, I am happy to share the content
with the group.
