I may be trying to over-engineer the template.

The outlined steps are more than what I have now, which is simply a field
entitled DocAuthor. The author is to click that field and type his/her
name. Done. If they have to monkey around in settings, I'll meet too much
resistance.

My audience being PMs, engineers and sales peeps, I'm looking for the best
KISS method that uses the absolute *least* number of steps.
