Except for logic, I can't recall the last time my work required any
math beyond filling out an expense account spreadsheet. Understanding
logic sometimes comes in handy when trying to understand complicated
wheels-within-wheels code. Occasionally I've caught programmers'
errors.

In my previous career writing software and hardware reviews, I had to
normalize test results and the like. In 1994, when Intel shipped some
Pentiums with a bug in an FDIV lookup table, I was able to explain
what was wrong with the math IBM's PR people put out exaggerating the
likelihood of encountering the bug.
