Macromedia bought eHelp in 2003 and it soon became clear they had no plans to do anything with RoboHelp. Apparently their only motive for buying the company was to get RoboDemo (which evolved into Captivate).

Adobe didn't dawdle bringing RoboHelp back to life. The Macromedia takeover was final in December 2005, and RoboHelp 6 was announced in January 2007. That's pretty fast given that most if not all of the developers who knew anything about it had been laid off by Macromedia or quit.
