It doesn't necessarily mean you interviewed badly, or that your personality was a poor fit for the team, or that there's something wrong with your preparation or experience. "Not the best fit" means somebody else was a better fit than you -- period. There are a lot of candidates out there; one of them may have blown the interview team away. The successful candidate may have had lots of experience in their exact product category, for example; may have been successful at their company for ten years, then gone away, then decided to come back; or may have been EXACTLY like you, right down to the fingerprints, but with twice as much experience in the field. In other words, "not the best fit" doesn't mean "not a good fit" or even "not a great fit". It means "not the best fit" of the candidates they had.

It's great that the interviews went "reasonably well"; it sounds like you did all the right things. None of that guarantees you the job. Don't take it personally or let it keep you up at night. Just keep trying. Good luck!
