Yes, I was thinking of him when I wrote that last paragraph in the original post:

"[Anyway, it'd be interesting to come up with a new paradigm of Tech Comms to mirror this kind of search method.] I know this has been written about, at least in those words, but I don't think I've seen it really address the matter with a solution that maps to the user's experience and motivation when doing these searches."

It's been a few months since I've read his blog but when I did so, I didn't find that it answered the question satisfactorily. I can certainly check it out again and see if either I missed something the first time, or he addresses it in his newer posts.

Thanks, Jack.

Steve

Well, jeepers - visit Mark Baker's site. He has done a lot of thinking on this. http://everypageispageone.com/

Namely... given that the new paradigm for finding information is a sort of random searching on the Web, my question is really this: "How do we re-fashion our technical communications to match the user's behavior and/or mental model when randomly searching on the Web?" (To match their *experience*, in other words.)
