TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
It's not exactly true that translation agencies don't charge for
numbers. They still need to proof them and sometimes translate them,
particularly if the decimal mark needs to change. Let appropriate
style conventions for all target languages (of which English is one;
it is not exclusive when writing for multilingual delivery) inform
your writing style.

When you're talking about dozens and dozens of manuals in 18-22 languages, at 17-26 cents per word, I guess it does add up over time. But try explaining that to STC judges!
