I think "His/Her" is only correct in situations that need to pointedly call attention to the fact that there are going to be women working in your field now, and you'd better get used to it. I should think that for "first-world" applications the usage can be scrapped (Hey, I'm an optimist).
"they/their/them" is the only way to go.

In the document I'm editing, they use His/Her. My inclination is to use "their" - comments?
