And that's why I use Thunderbird, even for my Gmail accounts. Quoting from (and responding to) the page you referenced:

*Labels*



*Folders*

A conversation can have more than one label You can only put a message in one folder

A conversation can be in several locations (Inbox, All Mail, Sent Mail, etc.) at once, making it easier to find later You have to remember where you filed a message to retrieve it
*Starr: In Thunderbird, I've created folders in a logical structure that makes it a trivial process to find a specific message.*
You can search conversations by label You can't always do folder-specific searches
*Starr: But in Thunderbird I can.*


*Starr: I've set up automatic filters that direct messages to the appropriate folder and I also have Thunderbird set up to place the reply in the same folder as the message; my replies are always with the message I replied to.*

Gmail does not use folders. It uses labels. The messages are not being
duplicated. When you select a label from the navigation pane, you are
viewing only those messages that have the label applied. So the same
message may appear under multiple labels, but these are not actually
multiple copies of the same message. And all the messages will always
