What's the purpose of the flowchart? I use them only when attempting to teach elementary concepts of programming.

Perhaps if I were documenting something that had a requirement that there be flowcharts then I might need to construct them. In general, if code needs a flowchart in order to be understood, it is likely poor code.

Even in the distant past the only times I ever really needed to flowchart existing programs was when working with legacy assembler and Fortran code that was written long before the establishment of modern ("structured") coding practices. There were "GOTO" arrows all over the place.

Anybody know a flowchart tool that's more efficient than Visio?

Ideally I'd like to be able to define it with readable code (if / else
/ or / etc.) rather than fiddling with graphical objects. Maybe Visio
can do that and I just don't know where to look.
