I feel you. I have been out'o'whack since having a day off in the middle of the week. What day is it, anyway?

I also selected all and did an Update Field, no go.

Assuming that you are using Word 2010, the trick is to *not* click the Insert button. Instead, click the arrowhead next to the button to pull down the menu with more command choices. You want to use either "Link to file" or "Insert and link".
