Not allowing doubled characters prevents the creation of passwords like "passwordddddddd," but at the cost of using common words like, oh, "common."

This is an anti-humanistic security rule, as it makes it more difficult for human beings to create and remember passwords. I've been making a point of writing and complaining to websites that have restrictive password rules. It's made a small difference: at least one site has loosened its rules.
