Peter Neilson described the strange results from the transcription of speech by a typist who did not understand the material: "The typist had no comprehension of spoken mathematics. The physicist's words, "P sub s," which we might code in HTML as P<sub>s</sub>, were transmogrified into piece of ass."

Our current ISP that provides cable TV, internet, and phone service recently rolled out a new feature where you can receive the voice mail messages left on your cable service phone as text messages on a smart cellphone. When I was job hunting, and received a lot of recruiter calls, the machine transcripted text messages ranged from incomprehensible to hilarious, and often, even the phone numbers were incorrect.
