And I think it's actually, as the follower, you "friend" someone (if we're talking about the action of it happening rather than trying to describe the process). Likewise, someone may try to " friend" me, and from their perspective, trying to friend me.

In summary, "-ing" is not popular in a lot of "new" word usage. Makes words too long.

(it's funny how a 140-character limited world is changing language - probably the same way computers changed language when they first hit the mainstream)
